In order to understand the influence of the planets, it helps to be aware of the speed with which each planet moves through a sign. The Moon, Mercury and Venus are the inner planets since they orbit between Earth and the Sun. Along with Mars, they exert the most noticeable and changing influence. The outer planets particularly Jupiter and Saturn exert more long-lasting influence. Uranus, Neptune and Pluto are called generational planets due to their very long-lasting influence.
